Why are the products packaged in paperboard cartons?

We use plastic coated paperboard milk cartons because we believe they protect milk’s goodness better than other packages. The flavor of milk is affected both by light and its container. In addition, the paper is a renewable resource and eight half-gallon paperboard containers require as much petroleum-based material as one half gallon plastic milk jug. We considered using clear glass containers, but milk is oxidized by light which adversely affects the flavor. Lastly, the cost and waste produced by distributing, returning, and cleaning glass containers is much greater than our current lightweight biodegradable cartons.
