Your Food Dollar is a Vote

Investing in Better Dairy

Every time you check out at the grocery store, you’re doing more than just buying dinner — you’re casting a vote for the kind of food system you want to support.

At Snowville Creamery, we believe your food dollar has power. It can shape local economies, support animal welfare, reduce environmental impact, and keep high-integrity farms thriving. And when that dollar stays local? Its value multiplies.

Let’s take a closer look at how choosing better dairy — and especially local dairy — creates a ripple effect far beyond the grocery aisle.

Vote for People, Not Just Products

Behind every carton of milk is a chain of decisions — how cows are treated, what they’re fed, how milk is processed, and who benefits from the sale. When you choose Snowville, you're voting for:

  • Farmers in our region who share our commitment to animal care, comfort farming, and sustainability.

  • A small Ohio-based creamery that pays fair prices for high-quality milk, processes it gently, and reinvests in local communities.

  • Workers and neighbors who depend on thriving rural economies.

Your food dollar isn’t just a transaction — it’s a vote for who gets supported and how they’re able to thrive.

How Far Does a Local Dollar Go?

You may have heard of the Local Multiplier Effect — and it’s real. Money spent with locally owned, independent businesses tends to:

  • Stay in the community longer

  • Get recirculated more times

  • Create more local jobs

In fact, research shows that for every $100 spent at a local business, about $68 stays in the local economy (compared to just $43 when spent at a national chain). That means your food dollar is doing double — or even triple — duty when you buy local dairy. [Source: Institute for Local Self-Reliance]

We explored this in-depth in our Local Multiplier blog post, and it’s a principle we live by every day.

How Far Does a Local Dollar Go?

You may not hear about it often in the dairy aisle, but the Ohio University Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service has conducted a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis on Snowville Creamery — a way to measure the broader value we create beyond profits.

Here’s what they found:

  • For every dollar you spend on Snowville Creamery products, an estimated $2.86 of value is generated in the form of local wages, sustainable farming practices, and community well-being.

  • That return includes support for low-impact farming, regional processing jobs, and education initiatives that build food literacy and transparency.

In other words: when you choose Snowville, your food dollar isn’t just buying milk — it’s creating value for everyone in the chain.

We're Proud to Do Dairy Differently

We believe there’s a better way to do dairy — and we’ve built our creamery around it.

Here’s how we stand apart:

✅ 100% A2/A2 for easier digestion

✅ Lower-temp pasteurized to preserve nutrients and flavor

✅ Grass-fed cows raised by local partner farms

✅ No ultra-processing, no added thickeners

These aren’t industry shortcuts. They’re intentional choices — and they only work because people like you choose to support them.

What You Buy, You Grow

At the end of the day, your food dollar is a powerful tool. It says:

  • “I care where my food comes from.”

  • “I want my money to stay in my community.”

  • “I support companies that do things the right way.”

And when you vote with your wallet, others notice. Local stores stock more local food. Farmers get more support. Creameries like ours keep doing what we do best.

So thank you for investing in better dairy. In our dairy. It matters more than you know.
